Leona “Joy” Lisk, 89, of Morro Bay, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Beloved wife (widow), mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Joy was born in New York and moved to Orange County, California in 1956 when she was 21. She worked at the Federal Reserve in New York and after moving to California, she worked in the banking industry for many years and at McDonnell Douglas. She later met and married Paul Lisk in Fullerton, California. She was very proud to be the wife of Paul, a World War II Veteran. She was so proud that she is listed with distinction on the Honor Roll of The National World War II Museum.
Joy and Paul had a wonderful life together having had many adventures together. Joy enjoyed education and attended Cal Poly and Fullerton College receiving two degrees and the “Woman of Distinction” Award. She loved literature, poetry, history, learning about nature and the world, and she loved to read, read, read (in addition to reading an array of books, two of her favorite authors were Eric Larson and John Grisham). After retiring, Joy and Paul traveled in their 5th Wheel across many different states volunteering as Campground Hosts, making lots of friends along the way. After settling in Coarsegold, CA, they helped build and live in Park of the Sierras, a new SKP Park near Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Mountains. After becoming a widow, Joy moved to Morro Bay, making lots of new friends in the Morro Bay community and spending time with those friends and her daughter, Nancy, and stepdaughter, Denise. She enjoyed her travels to Japan to visit Nancy and many historical and state park vacations with her daughters and friends, traveling to New York, Washington DC, Virginia, Hawaii, Florida, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Redwoods, San Francisco, Monterey, Sacramento and the California State Capital, New Mexico, and more!
Joy loved Morro Bay and was so happy to live near Morro Rock for the last eleven years. She enjoyed time at the Morro Bay Community Center, taking a variety of classes over the years, including Emeritus Classes through Cuesta College. She had a delightful sense of humo,r and she loved to go shopping, always making sure to match her new outfits with matching purses and shoes. She loved yummy chocolate desserts and treats and Pepsi-Cola!
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her daughter Margie, grandson Justin, her sister, Gail and her best friends, Allie and BJ. She is deeply missed by her family and friends.
Burial will take place at 2 p.m. on July 23 at the Cayucos/Morro Bay Cemetery.
