The SLO County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a phone scam that’s targeting a number of residents in the county.
Several people have called us recently to report that they had been contacted by someone claiming to be a deputy sheriff, said Sheriff’s spokesperson Tony Cipolla. They were warned they had a grand jury warrant out for their arrest. The caller indicates the resident can clear the warrant by posting bail if they purchase gift cards.
“We want to caution residents this is a scam,” said Cipolla, “The Sheriff’s Office reminds you that it is not our practice to contact residents by phone regarding these matters. Deputy sheriff’s will never request money or gift cards in lieu of bail.”
Anyone who receives a call like this should report it to their local law enforcement agency or contact the Sheriff’s Office at 805-781-4550. The Sheriff’s Office encourages folks to inform family and friends about this scam so they can be prepared in the event they receive a call like this.

Diablo Canyon Panel
Selections Delayed
Citing the Coronavirus Pandemic and resultant orders to shelter at home, Pacific Gas and Electric and the Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel announced that the application window for membership on the Panel has been delayed.
“The 2020 application window originally launched March 12,” PG&E said in a news release. “Since then, the COVID-19 pandemic and associated shelter-at-home orders have disrupted or altered most school, work and civic activities.
PG&E and the Panel decided to delay solicitation for applicants. “A 30-day application window will be reopened and advertised at a later time, once the pandemic has subsided. Applications that have already been received since March 12 will be included in the future selection process,” the company said.
All current Panel members will remain on the Panel until the 2020 membership process can be completed. For more information about the panel, see: www.diablocanyonpanel.org or www.pge.com/engagementpanel.
The Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel was created to foster open and frequent dialogue between members of the local community and PG&E on the power plant’s decommissioning, anticipated to happen by 2025, when Diablo Canyon’s operating licenses expire.

April Waste Delays Clean-Up Week

Waste Connections Due to the COVID-19 potential to stay on certain items for a period of time, Waste Connections is postponing clean-up week in April. Manually handling items left on the curb increases employee safety risk for COVID-19.
However, trash, greenwaste and recycling collection will continue to be serviced with no interruptions. These containers provide a no-contact collection eliminating our employee risk.
If you have items that you need to be disposed of Cold Canyon Landfill will be open Monday through Saturday 8 – 3. Tarp your loads and drive safely. Safety vests are required.
