Investigators arrested a Cambria man for suspected possession of hundreds of child sexual abuse materials, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s spokesman said that on June 10 Sheriff’s Detectives served a search warrant on a home in the 400 block of Leighton St., in Cambria in connection with an ongoing investigation for possession of child sexual abuse material or CSAM.
“The investigation began,” Cipolla said, “in April 2026 when the Sheriff’s Office and San Luis Obispo Police Department received multiple tips regarding the possession of CSAM.”
Detectives reportedly discovered more than 600 images alleged to depict the sexual abuse of children and arrested Roberto MercadoLeonardo, 45 of Cambria for suspicion of possessing CSAM.
Investigators are combing through the images and trying to determine if there are any photos of local victims connected to the suspect.
MercadoLeonardo has since posted bail and been released from County Jail, Cipolla said.
