Katherine Hepburn (standing) and Ginger Rogers star in Stage Door, a 1937 film being screened Sept. 14 as a 10th birthday celebration for By the Sea Productions.

By the Sea Productions will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a special screening of a Hollywood classic film at the historic Bay Theater in Downtown Morro Bay.

By the Sea, Morro Bay’s homegrown live theater troupe, will show the 1937 classic film “Stage Door” starring a bevvy of Hollywood starlets — Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Adolphe Menjou, Gail Patrick, Constance Collier, Andrea Leeds, and Lucille Ball.

Tickets are $25 a person or $45 a couple and available at the door or online at: bytheseaproductions.org.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with wine and cocktail snacks provided by The Savory Palette. The film plays at 5:30.

Based on a play by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman, “Stage Door” offers a look back at theater of the ‘30s.

Billed as an American tragicomedy, “Stage Door” was directed by Gregory La Cava. The film tells the story of several would-be actresses who live together in a boarding house in New York City. It was produced and distributed by RKO Pictures.

“Stage Door” was nominated for four Academy Awards in 1938, including a Best Supporting Actress nod for Andrea Leach, but didn’t win any Oscars.
