Mike Meyers stars as Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery, showing Monday Feb. 17 at The Bay Theater in Morro Bay, a fund-raiser for 97.3 FM The Rock community radio.

“Oh behave… The campy smash hit, “Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery,” will have a special fundraising screening in February to benefit the local community radio station.

The Rock Community Radio (97.3 FM) is hosting the screening at the Bay Theater in Morro Bay. It’s the third special movie night the Bay has hosted for the non-profit, commercial-free radio station, based in Morro Bay.

Tickets for Austin Powers night at the Bay are $15 a person and available online at: my805tix.com or at The Rock CommunityRadio.org. Doors open at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17 and the curtain rises at 6 p.m.

Previous movie nights — showing The Big Lebowski and Rocky Horror Picture Show — sold out and we hear, were great fun as attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes from the movie. So dig out your old bell bottom Jeans and rubber Jesus sandals, throw on some hippie beads and put flowers in your hair (Oh yeah, Baby!) and join the fun.

Bay Theater owner, Cameron Wilson, loves these events. “We love partnering up and supporting the Rock Community Radio, a unique, free-form, non-commercial local radio station. It’s kind of like the rug that ties the Community together.”

The proceeds from the fundraiser will help keep community radio alive and well on the Central Coast. “These screenings,” said The Rock founder Hal Abrams, “are always a blast. When you support The Rock, you lift every local non-profit that uses The Rock airwaves to spread their message. It’s a win-win.”

The Rock has been working towards obtaining necessary equipment so it can become part of the local Emergency Broadcast System and pull extra duty in times of emergency to help keep the public informed.

The Rock Community Radio, 97.3 FM in the Estero Bay Area, and 107.9 FM in the North County, is a non-profit organization operated and supported by listeners and residents of San Luis Obispo County.

The Rock offers “hyper-local, engaging, creative, community-based FM radio and online programming.”

They also provide public safety programming, emergency preparedness education, and emergency alert announcements for Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero in the North County, and to the communities of the Estero Bay — Morro Bay, Los Osos, and Cayucos.
