Morro Bay’s Jim Zuur continues to bring home metal competing with his swim team, TAM, Tamalpais Aquatic Masters. This past August they attended the 2026 US Masters Nationals in Sacramento. Early in his senior years, Zuur started competing in the Senior Games intended for swimmers 50 and older. After finding success, he decided to try more competitive meets challenging himself to advance his training. The US Masters Nationals is for swimmers 18-100. Zuur now competes in the over 85 group with sixteen other members of the team.
He reports, “(I) had a great meet — four Silvers in individual events and eighth in my relay.” He was also proud to share their team’s successes, which “out of 1400 swimmers who qualified to swim from 236 clubs, we placed eleventh with only 16 members while larger clubs like the Olympic Club have 77 swimmers, which helped them place first.”
Zurr currently practices at the Morro Bay High School pool although this meet was considered an LCM (long course meter) meet.
“I had to train at Sinsheimer in SLO to practice the events I entered,” Zuur said. “It is the only pool on the Central Coast with a 50-meter pool not split up into halves.”

Coach Peterson said four members competed this year at the Nationals. They were Dana Paquin, Christine Scott, Dan Gibbons, who are all in their 40s plus 70-year-young Mickey Lant. Each finishing their contests placing anywhere from second to ninth place while competing in 12 events.
