The median along Los Osos Valley Road has sprouted a very healthy (unfortunately) crop of weeds and the non-profit Celebrate Los Osos is holding a weed pull, Saturday, October 3 at 9 a.m.

“Come get your hands dirty and join us for a community weed pull along the median,” said Pandora Karner-Nash, president of CLO. “We will provide the safety vests. Please bring a trowel, rake or any weed pulling device you might have handy.

CLO has twice replanted the Los Osos median strip, an 1100 linear median along Los Osos Valley Road, starting at South Bay Blvd. They have maintained, repaired, replanted and nurtured the median for 15 years and they pay for the water.

“This is the entrance of our town and impressions are important,” Karner-Nash said. “The aesthetic qualities of roads leading into towns leave an important and lasting impression. Approach roads are a significant part of a commuters’ daily landscape, and their aesthetic qualities have an effect on the commuters’ psychological processes, traffic behavior and quality of life. For visitors, entrances—an expression of the identity of a place—change the viewer’s impression of the place they are approaching or passing by. The quality of the view and the overall visual perception of the environment speak volumes to the visitor. A long median with weeds does not tell our story. The median is the entrance to the local retail area and should make a positive statement.”

To volunteer, please contact Ellie at volunteer@CelebrateLosOsos.org. Meet in front of the former Beach Hut Deli. CLO asks that participants do not cross the street until everyone is all together.
