Admitted child rapist, Juan Sanchezflores, was give 25-years-to-life in prison for the 2019 rape of a teenage girl in rural Arroyo Grande and getting her pregnant.
A Santa Maria man, who admitted to raping and impregnating a teenage girl in 2019, has been given life in prison for his crime.
According to the District Attorney’s Office news release, on Nov. 20, Juan Sanchezflores, 44 of Santa Maria, was sentenced to 25-years-to-life in State Prison after pleading guilty of rape by force or violence and inflicting great bodily injury to his victim, who was a 16-year-old girl at the time.
“The great bodily injury enhancement to the sentence,” reads the news release, “is based on the young survivor becoming pregnant because of the crime.”
The crime “occurred about May 2019 on a rural property near Lopez Lake,” the release said. It was reported prior, after Sanchezflores pled out, that the girl and her family decided to keep the child, a boy, and raise him.
D.A. Dan Dow sent a clear message. “Predators are not welcome here. Any person who commits a violent crime such as this, will be vigorously prosecuted by this office. My heart goes out to this survivor, and I am grateful for her courage to seek assistance from the criminal and victim justice system. I hope that this case serves to encourage all other survivors to report knowing that they will be heard and advocated for in San Luis Obispo County.”
The case was investigated by the Sheriff’s Department’s Det. Patricia Montalvo and Det. Wade Knowles; assisted by the D.A. Office’s Bureau of Investigation; and prosecuted by Dep. D.A. Kristin Barnard of the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit. Victim Advocate, Divina Diaz, also assisted confidential victim through the justice process.
