The Sheriff’s Department arrested delivery driver, Robert Becker, Jr., 54, on suspicion of sexual assault and not registering as a convicted sex offender.

The County Sheriff’s Department arrested an apparently homeless, convicted sex offender, who was working as a food deliveryman, for suspicion of attempted rape, the department announced.

Sheriff’s spokesman, Tony Cipolla said they got a 9-1-1 call at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 from a Nipomo woman, who said “the driver for an app-based food delivery service had sexually assaulted her when delivering her order.

“The suspect had already left the residence prior to detectives arriving.”

Investigators discovered the driver’s name and arrested him the following day somewhere in Nipomo. Cipolla said the suspect, identified as Robert Becker, Jr., 54, has no known address. Becker was charged with suspicion of assault with the intent to commit rape and failure to register as a sex offender, the latter of which will see him returned to prison no matter the disposition of the newest charge.

Cipolla said their investigation is continuing and did not name the delivery service involved.

They think this was not an isolated incident. “If anyone has information on this incident or other similar incidents,” Cipolla said, “you are asked to contact Sheriff’s Detectives at 805-781-4500.”
