Smoke and flames could be seen billowing out the roof and windows of a single-story home that was destroyed by fire in Los Osos.

Firefighters from Cal Fire South Bay Station 15 and the Morro Bay Fire Department battled a house fire on the 1400 block of 7th Street on July 8 that was reported at about 5:46 p.m.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” Cal Fire Public Information Officer Toni Davis told Estero Bay News noting that the structure was 100 percent consumed.

Estero Bay News Publisher Dean Sullivan was at the scene and witnessed flames shooting out windows and the roof of the home. Sherrif’s deputies and bystanders rescued several pets from the home.

Three people were in the home at the time; they suffered no injuries. Davis reported that one dog and two cats were believed to have perished in the fire, but three dogs and four cats were rescued.

Fire crews reported the fire was knocked down by 6:15 p.m.

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers responded to the fire “providing support to residents displaced by the disaster,” Taylor Poisall, regional communications director said in an email to EBN. “Volunteers offered care and comfort items, immediate financial assistance for urgent needs and information about recovery resources available to help our neighbors begin the recovery process.

“The Disaster Action Team) serves as a critical link between first responders and community members during local disasters, most often home fires. In San Luis Obispo County, DAT volunteers assist an average of 30 families each year, helping ensure those impacted have access to emergency support when they need it most.”
