Mrs. Tina Lucas, 76, of Los Osos, passed peacefully with family by her side at French Hospital Medical Center on September 10, 2025.

Tina was born on September 11, 1948, in Seattle, WA as the first child of Jack and Carleen Bryant. She spent her childhood exploring the world alongside her father’s deployments as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, including time residing in the Philippines, before she settled in Riverside, CA, where she attended Riverside Polytechnic High School.

After graduating from UC Santa Barbara in 1970 with a degree in history and completing her credential, Tina began her teaching career with a first-grade class in El Segundo, CA. She went on to work for San Luis Coastal Unified School District for 35 years, where she served students, parents, and colleagues as an innovator, leader, and mentor. Tina was recognized for her contributions as Teacher of the Year for both the district and the county in 2004-2005.

Tina’s passion for education extended beyond the classroom, where she served on several state and national committees with the aim of improving the quality of math and science education in elementary schools. At the end of her career, she helped jumpstart a new program supporting new teachers in their first year in the classroom. Tina’s servant’s heart and passion for education touched the lives of many local students and teachers.

In retirement, Tina stayed connected to her local community. Her love of learning kept her active in Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for women educators. She also supported several local yoga studios, attending regular classes and supporting their programs. Additionally, Tina had several treasured friendships that deepened during this time.

Tina married Paul Lucas in October 1977, before relocating from southern California to Los Osos, CA. She and Paul were each other’s “forever” companion and adventure partner. Together, they enjoyed hiking, cooking, camping, golden retrievers, marathon running, and exploring the beauty of our State and National Parks.

Family was of the utmost importance to Tina, who cherished her role of mother and grandmother and regularly prepared home-cooked meals to bring everyone together. She delighted in watching her four grandsons grow, helping them learn, cheering at their games, sharing in new experiences, and creating everyday opportunities for playfulness and wonder.

Tina is survived by her husband, Paul Lucas, children Carly (Chris) Woods and Drew (Danielle) Lucas, brother Mark (Carol) Bryant, and four grandsons. She will be especially remembered for her ability to tackle any challenge with a smile, her humble heart, steadfast friendship, selfless leadership, enthusiastic hugs, dry wit, and buoyant spirit.

A public memorial service was held on January 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the South Bay Community Center in Los Osos. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Awakening Meditation Center (www.awakeningmeditation.org).
