MBHS Names All League; Top Sports Awards

With another school year in the history books, and Morro Bay High School recently handed out its school athletic awards and named the spring sports all league awardees.

Athletes of the Year

Boy Athletes of the Year awards were given to star football quarterback, Sands Dougherty and two-sport standout Evan Davis who played baseball and water polo for the Pirates. 

The Girl Athlete of the Year went to basketball standout, Violet Pace, who was the Sunset League MVP and was also named Player of the Year by The Tribune. The Pirates were co-Champions with Righetti.

The school’s Good Guy Award went to Colton Rosenlieb and the Good Gal Award went to Reese Kelly.

League Champs

The Boys Swimming Team took the Sunset League Championship, according to information provided by the school. The Pirates leader, senior Jude Moore was named Sunset League MVP.

Junior, Edward Ku made Honorable Mention All Sunset League in the 100-meter fly, as did the 200m freestyle relay team of Moore, Asea Vidati, Caelen Josey and Alex Roberts.

Beach Volleyball

The Beach Volleyball Team saw two girls honored. Ava Anesse, a senior, was named Second Team All-League in the Mountain League and her teammate, Keolani Cross, a senior, was Honorable Mention.

Baseball

The Pirate’s shortstop and senior, Colton White, was named to the Mountain League’s First Team All-League.

Senior third baseman, Quentin Crofts made Second Team All Mountain League and pitcher, senior Eli Brown was Honorable Mention All-League.

Boys Golf

The Boys Golf Team had a couple of players honored. Seniors, Andrew Cellar and Stone Hawk made First Team All-League in the Sunset League.

Softball

Two softball players were honored.

Senior shortstop Reese Kelly and junior utility player, Vena Fryer were named Second Team All Ocean League.

Junior catcher, Julia Brown was Honorable Mention All-League for the Pirates.

Boys Volleyball

The Boys Volleyball Team had two players honored in the Sunset League.

Liam Coming was named First Team All-League and junior outside hitter Johnny Roberts was Honorable Mention.

Track & Field

The Pirates had several track athletes make All League honors, led by high jumper Lucas McAlpine, a junior, and pole vaulter, Bennett Robertson, a junior both making Second Team All-League in the Ocean League. And 1600m runner Abe Gade was Honorable Mention All-League.

On the girls team, which had two runners make it to the State Meet, Rees Bright a sophomore was Second Team All-League in both the 100m and 200m.

Juniors, Shelby Taylor and Wendy Wilson, were Second Team All-League in the 1600m, and the 800m respectively.

Both girls also medaled in the CIF Sections and Masters Meets and qualified for the State Championship Meet.
