Adventist Health Raises Funds for Expansion

More than 230 community members, physicians, business leaders and supporters recently gathered at Sensorio in Paso Robles for A Bright Beginning, the inaugural community celebration benefiting Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation.
The evening raised approximately $140,000 in support of local health care and marked an important milestone for the newly established Foundation. It also provided the setting for a major announcement about the future of health care on the Central Coast: an expanded $350 million investment in Adventist Health Sierra Vista that will now include fully private patient rooms.
“A Bright Beginning was about bringing our community together around what is possible for health care here on the Central Coast,” said Meghan Shoven, director of Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation. “The expanded investment in Adventist Health Sierra Vista is an extraordinary commitment to our region, and the generosity we saw that evening demonstrated that our community is ready to be part of building the future of health care alongside us.”
Plans for Adventist Health Sierra Vista include a new emergency department, birth center, intensive care unit, operating rooms, and procedure rooms designed to expand capacity and enhance the patient experience.
“Adventist Health Sierra Vista serves a critical role in the region as San Luis Obispo County’s only trauma center, as well as home to the county’s only dedicated pediatric unit and neonatal intensive care unit,” Shoven said. “The expanded investment will strengthen the hospital’s ability to provide advanced care close to home while preparing for the community’s health care needs for generations to come.”
The evening also highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening care throughout the Central Coast, including investments in women’s and children’s health, emergency and trauma services, surgical innovation, oncology, and other areas of greatest need.
More than $25,000 in matching gifts from members of the Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation Advisory Board Council helped inspire giving during the evening and demonstrated the Council Board’s personal commitment to the Foundation’s mission.
“This is truly a bright beginning for the Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation,” Shoven said. “We are building something that belongs to this community. Every gift stays here in San Luis Obispo County and helps us strengthen the care available to our neighbors, friends, and families.”
Wanted Italian Cinema Buffs

San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLOIFF) and the Noci Film Fest have collaborated on a mini-Italian film festival in partnership with the Italian Program at Cal Poly. The event takes place on Tuesday, November 10, and will screen five Italian short films and host four of their young Italian directors (all under 30) and two delegates from The Noci Film Fest.
The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at SLO Film Center at the Palm Theatre. Italian Aperitivo consisting of light bites and drinks will be served, followed by the screenings and a Q & A session with the directors and the Noci Film Fest team. Refreshments are provided by event sponsor and local favorite, Café Roma.
“We are very excited to host Italian filmmakers and showcase their work in San Luis Obispo,” said Skye McLennan, executive director of SLOIFF. “Traveling to the Noci Film Festival in the Puglia region this summer was an incredible experience, and we look forward to bringing a bit of its magic to San Luis Obispo. Partnerships like these bring our world and communities closer together and highlight the power of storytelling and connection.”

As part of the collaboration, the Noci Film Fest established the Dolce Vita Award in 2026. The award recognizes an emerging American director whose short film the Noci Film Fest believes will resonate with Italian audiences, while fostering artistic exchange, and increased visibility for emerging voices between Puglia, Italy and California. The winner in 2026, “Everything Must Go,” was announced on April 28 at SLOIFF’s closing night ceremonies. Its director, Tiffany So, was invited to attend the Noci Film Fest in Italy as the festival’s guest in July of this year.
The Noci Film Fest/SLOIFF partnership is supported with funding from the Italian Government to promote Italian cinema and foster a transnational exchange of filmmakers and film festival professionals with California. Building on this support, the Noci Film Fest collaborated with Skye McLennan, executive director, SLOIFF; Dr. Antonio Iannotta, professor of Italian Cinema, UC San Diego; and Valentina Cartareggia, executive director, San Diego Italian Film Festival (SDIFF), to design and implement an international exchange program for young directors. The collaboration was initiated and coordinated by Dr. Teresiana Matarrese of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
As part of the exchange, the Noci Film Fest hosted a California jury including Randi Barros (Cal Poly), Jennie Tugend (American Film Institute), Skye McLennan (SLOIFF), Dr. Antonio Iannotta (UCSD), and Valentina Cartareggia (SDIFF) in July 2026. Two Cal Poly students, Reagan Bones and Riley Petrocco, were also invited to attend the festival where they made a short film about the collaboration and screened their film, “You Jump, I Jump,” which premiered at SLOIFF 2026.
Check for Credit on PG&E Bill
Eligible small business customers across Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) service area will automatically receive a $36.18 California Climate Credit on their October energy bill. No action is required to receive the credit.
The twice-a-year electric credit was first delivered to eligible small business customers in April, for an annual total of $72.36 in credits distributed in 2026. The California Climate Credit is funded by the state’s Cap-and-Invest Program (formerly known as Cap-and-Trade), which requires companies to pay for climate pollution. The credit is distributed by PG&E to customers as directed by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
PG&E estimates nearly 370,000 small business customers in its service area are eligible to receive the credit. The CPUC defines an eligible small business as a non-residential customer on a general service or agricultural rate with fewer than 100 electric accounts, where usage on each account did not exceed 20 kilowatts in more than three months during the previous 12-month period.
Nonprofit organizations and schools also qualify for the small business California Climate Credit. To ensure the credit is directed to small businesses, eligibility is limited to customers with fewer than 100 eligible accounts.
