The Trinity Educational Community Garden’s Grand Opening Celebration at Trinity Methodist Church in Los Osos drew a crowd of about 60 people with Garden Manager Scott Danielson presenting the garden’s history and future plans for the area.
Things are off to a good start with only three beds of 30 still available for rent. Each 10 feet raised bed also offers anirrigation system and is only $10 a month.
The Misson of the garden is to “enhance the quality of urban life and to strengthen cross cultural community bonds by creating and sustaining a garden that will promote sharing of healthy food, provide education to utilize the use of organic food, environmental stewardship and recreation,” their website states.
Earlier this year, the Trinity Educational Community Garden received a generous gift —Light Manufacturing donated two 572-gallon water storage tanks, made from completely recycled materials. Bob Crizer of Crizer Construction brought the tanks to the site from Arroyo Grande.
There was also a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Los Osos Baywood Park Chamber of Commerce. Among the guests were District 2 Supervisor Bruce Gibson, Supervisor Candidate Jim Dantona, and the on-duty crew from Cal Fire South Bay Station 15. One lucky person won the door prize giveaway for a complimentary one-year garden bed rental.
Attendees enjoyed a picnic lunch, with the help of the Bay Osos Kiwanis Club, of fried chicken, chips, potato salad, and cake. There were guided tours of the garden, worm hotel, and composting area. Annie Newland also provided an informative presentation on herbal gardening.
