The American Association of University Women, Morro Bay Branch will meet on Saturday, May 9, at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, 545 Shasta in Morro Bay, at 10 a.m. Their new Board of Directors will be installed, and they will honor all who made our Garden Tour a success this year. After a short business meeting, they will celebrate with a potluck provided by the members.

City Farm SLO invites the community to celebrate the return of one of its most beloved spring traditions at the 5th Annual Sheep Shearing Shindig, taking place Saturday, May 9, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at City Farm SLO. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is needed in advance at My805tix.com.
This lively afternoon of hands-on agriculture offers visitors a chance to experience the seasonal ritual of sheep shearing up close while learning about Navajo-Churro sheep. Guests can watch skilled shearer, Brittany App, in action during live demonstrations and explore the journey of wool from fleece to fiber through interactive activities.

The Cal Poly Jazz Combos Spring Showcase is set for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center. There are four jazz combos which explore a wide spectrum of jazz performance, from modern and traditional styles to original compositions and arrangements, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian–influenced repertory, and classic standards. The irrepressible Dolly Levi is coming to Los Osos on Saturday afternoon, May 9 at 3 p.m. when the Central Coast Reader’s Theatre performs “The Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder. The venue for this merriment is St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Los Osos Valley and Clark Valley Roads. Follow Dolly as she tries to nab Horace Vandergelder in marriage, while two young men find the loves of their lives in a trip from Yonkers to 1890s New York City. The performance will be followed by a Mother’s Day Tea, featuring savory and sweet treats.
The cast includes Los Osos residents Scott Danielson, Terri Fisher, John Horsley, Alan Kiste, Dru Riker, Sarah Chesebro, Mary Walker and Pat Snodgrass The play is directed by local theatre veteran, Jonniepat Mobley. County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries is partnering with NAACP SLO County and SLO County Library Foundation to present a screening of the short film “Breath of Gloster,” featuring trail runner and environmental activist Peyton Thomas and educator-activist Dr. Krystal Martin. The screening will be followed by a community discussion with Thomas and Dr. Martin and local experts.
The event, part of the Library’s film series Outside Together, takes place Saturday May 9, at 1 p.m., at the Cuesta College CPAC. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.. Admission and parking are free.
“Breath of Gloster,” tells the story of a grassroots fight against the wood pellet biomass industry in Gloster, Mississippi, and of the trail race that was about more than just miles.

Look to the skies this spring as the Rotary Club of Cambria invites the community to join the fun at Ping Pong Palooza, a lively fundraising event happening
Saturday, May 16 at San Simeon Beach Lodge. The festivities kick off with a barbecue at 11 a.m., followed by the main event at noon, when hundreds of numbered ping pong balls will be dropped from approximately 65 feet in the air, landing in a marked target circle below. The ball closest to the pin wins big, making this a high-energy mix of suspense, laughter, and pure chance.
Ping pong balls are available for purchase at $20 for five balls, and every purchase directly supports local and international Rotary service projects through the Rotary Club of Cambria Foundation.

Songwriter, guitarist, and performer Matthias Clark will appear in a special full-band concert at The Gathering Place in San Luis Obispo on Friday, May 16, with
doors opening at 6 p.m and the show beginning at 7 p.m. The evening will feature two full sets of original music, including new songs from Clark’s upcoming album, “Blood In The Air,” along with a retrospective of songs from across his catalog.
Clark’s music blends jazz, folk, rock, and poetry — deeply personal songwriting with melodic hooks, improvisational energy, vocal harmonies, and an American roots foundation. His work moves between intimate storytelling, jazz-laced guitar language, alternate pop textures, and singalong choruses.
The son of legendary American actor Matt Clark, Clark has been immersed in the arts from an early age. A founding force behind bands including King Holiday, Hedzoleh Soundz, DharmaBums, and The Lost Tribe, he has shared stages and collaborations with artists including Carly Simon, Michelle Shocked, jazz guitarist Pat Martino, and pianist John Beasley.

Cal Poly’s Chamber Choir and Cantabile will present a concert of two cantatas at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, in the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church: Benjamin Britten’s “Cantata Misericordium” which asks the question: “Who is My Neighbor?” and Dan Forrest’s cantata “Lux: The Dawn from on High.” John Buffett, baritone, and George Gorrindo, tenor, will be guest soloists for the Britten piece, and string players will perform for both.
