Blotter is Worth the Trip
I recently picked up a copy of the Estero Bay News at a gas station in Cambria, expecting to catch up on the local news. I was not expecting to laugh out loud at the Police Blotter.
Please pass along my compliments to whoever writes it. Between the “5-fingered shopping spree,” the “mulish tool not staying-the-hell-away-from-her” being “a moonflower and not a morning glory,” and the wonderfully candid observation that police logs “don’t really say much of anything useful these days,” I was thoroughly entertained.
There is clearly someone behind that column who refuses to let a routine police log stand in the way of good writing.
I live in Modesto, but I’m now seriously considering whether the Estero Bay News Police Blotter alone is sufficient reason to keep up with the happenings around Cambria and Morro Bay.
Please tell your mystery writer that their work was noticed, appreciated, and passed along to several friends who got a good laugh out of it too.
Keep up the fine journalism — and please don’t ever let anyone make the Police Blotter boring.

Central Coast Funds for Children
“The mission of Central Coast Funds for Children is to raise funds to help provide a hopeful pathway for children in need in San Luis Obispo County.”
I have been a proud member of Central Coast Funds for Children (CCFC) for 10 years, joining when we first moved to the Central Coast from the LA area. I first became involved because of the ladies I met when we moved here, but their mission statement and dedication to the cause led me to multiple board positions including president, grant review chair, and event chair, to name a few.
Monies raised by CCFC are awarded in the form of grants to various agencies and organizations that provide for the basic needs of children in our county. These needs include food, clothing, medical and dental care, school supplies, therapy and guidance counseling, camp experiences, enrichment activities, and the arts. In 2025, we contributed to 42 organizations totaling $112,000. We are proud to say that this is our 32nd anniversary and over the course of those thirty-two years we have donated $2,286,665.
CCFC is comprised of up to 35 women who volunteer over 3,400 hours per year on various causes, including fundraising events like “All For The Kidz,” which is scheduled this year on September 19, at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year where we have dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, and lots of fun! CCFC volunteers also give their time to several important community events, including Children’s Day in the Plaza (craft booth) and Camp Reach for the Stars (a camp for children with cancer and their families). Also, once per month members meet to make “Sunshine Sacks.” These sacks are filled with toiletries, a blanket, a stuffed animal, an activity book, a journal, crayons and pen, and a water bottle. They are given to children placed in foster care through SLO County Department of Social Services.
CCFC members meet monthly in one of the member’s homes with the philosophy that the more money we raise, the more money to help children. We do not have an office or paid staff so there is virtually no overhead. All money raised is through member dues, donations (both private and business) and our major fundraiser. Grants are available on our website and applications are accepted September 1 through September 30 each calendar year. The grants are then reviewed by an appointed committee and awarded in December.
