Betty O’Connor, known to most as “Doc,” celebrated her 92nd birthday on August 2. Doc was at the helm of O’Connor Pet Hospital in San Luis Obispo for many decades and was known at the veterinarian who would go the extra mile for local pets. She was one of the first women to graduate with a DVM from the University of California, Davis and was a pioneer in many other arenas, not the least of which included an African safari to assess and support elephant heard health.
Betty’s family came to San Luis Obispo county in the 1940s when her father ran a car dealership in downtown San Luis Obispo. She went away for college but has been a committed Central Coast resident ever since.
Publisher’s note: Betty is my wife’s aunt and I’ve had the honor to know her personally.
