The race for honorary mayor of Cambria is underway. Vote now. Pictured are Dianne “Lady Tie Di” Brooke representing the Cambria PTA, Jim Bahringer representing the American Legion, Post 432, Del Clegg representing the Cambria Rotary Club, and Barrett Stuart representing the Cambria Tennis Club.

The race for honorary mayor of Cambria is now in full gear. Four candidates are vying for the coveted title that will be announced during the inaugural Mayoral Inauguration Ball on September 5, at the Veterans Memorial Hall in the West Village of Cambria as part of the Pinedorado Days weekend. The candidates include Dianne “Lady Tie Di” Brooke representing the Cambria PTA, Jim Bahringer representing the American Legion, Post 432, Del Clegg representing the Cambria Rotary Club and Barrett Stuart representing the Cambria Tennis Club.

“Unlike real politics in which buying votes and voting more than once are illegal, every vote cast in this mayoral election is bought and paid for at the rate of one dollar per vote,” organizers said. “Even better, voters can cast many, many votes for each and every candidate. In fact, the motto of this race, as embedded on the election campaign logo, is mature suffragare, saepe suffragare. Translated, it reads, ‘vote early, vote often.’”

During the Mayoral Inaugural Ball, the candidates will conclude their respective campaigns with a stump speech early in the evening. The patrons will have one more opportunity to “vote” then the electioneers will tally the cumulative votes and announce the victor. And yes, attendees will get a chance to hear three concession speeches followed by a rousing victory speech.

The rest of the evening will be filled with glorious dance music of the mid 20th century provided by a live, 16-piece swing band known as the Vineyard Jazz Big Band. A dance floor will be available adjacent to the stage for all those inclined to move with the music.

Delegates (those who purchase tickets for this gala) will enjoy a charcuterie board of assorted treats and a complementary glass of wine or soft drink. There will be a limited cash bar for additional wine and food. The Mayoral Inauguration Ball is limited to 120 delegates, so purchase your tickets early. Delegates are also encouraged to wear formal attire commensurate with the dress code of the 1920s through the 1940s.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the MC of this gala, Rick Bruce, will kick off the festivities around 6:30 with his unique brand of magic followed by the stump speeches, and then the first music set.

Tickets are $50 each via c ash or credit card. They are available at the Cambria Chamber of Commerce during business hours and at the Cambria Farmer’s Market every Friday afternoon starting July 3. The candidates themselves will also have available for purchase.
