Elwood and ‘Joliet’ Jake Blues — Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi — pose with the Bluesmobile in the musical comedy film, The Blues Brothers, set to play the Bay Theater July 20, a benefit for The Rock Community Radio.
The classic musical romp, The Blues Brothers, will play Morro Bay’s Bay Theater July 20, a benefit for The Rock Community Radio.
The John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd musical comedy is set for 6 p.m. Monday July 20. Doors open at 5 and there’s some pre-movie festivities, including a Blues Brothers costume social beforehand. Grab your black suit and tie, put on your Ray Bans and fedora and join the fun.
The event features award winning craft beers from Firestone Walker Brewing Co., and select wines from Symbiosis Winery, plus the theater’s snack bar will also be open.
Directed by John Landis, it’s a hilarious story of redemption when “Joliet” Jake, who’s fresh out of prison, and Elwood Blues go “on a mission from God,” to save the orphanage they were raised in from closure.
The pair round up their old band mates from The Blues Brothers Band encountering some of the greatest names in blues music — James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, who all perform while Jake and Elwood set out “gettin’ the band back together again.”
The Rock founder Hal Abrams, said, “Community radio is all about bringing people together. We couldn’t think of a better way to raise vital funds for the station than by gathering our incredible listeners for an absolute classic like The Blues Brothers at the beautiful, historic Bay Theatre.”
Advanced tickets are $15 a person and available online at: TheRockCommunityRadio.org, or my805tix.com, and if available, at the box office on the night of the show. The historic Bay Theater is located at 464 Morro Bay Blvd.
Proceeds support the day-to-day operations of The Rock Community Radio, 07.3 FM for the Estero Bay communities, and 107.9 FM in Paso Robles. You can also stream the station online at: TheRockCommunityRadio.org.
