Greenspace – The Cambria Land Trust offers an ongoing speaker series and has just announced two upcoming presentations. Fulfilling one of its missions to provide community education, the series explores a wide range of environmental issues featuring fascinating presentations by cutting-edge scientists, photojournalists and environmental activists.

Lisa Murphy will speak Sunday, May 4, beginning at 4 p.m. about Snapshot USA, a national mammal tracking project, which she recently completed in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute. Sampling mammal populations with camera traps across habitats and ecosystems across the United States, the data is compiled and added to a national database to monitor those populations over time.

Murphy, a California naturalist, is a board member of Greenspace Cambria and adjunct professor at Columbia and Cuesta Colleges. She is co-founder of the Gold Country Bar project and is a former supervisory park ranger at Yosemite National Park.

“The Spirituality of Place: A Religious Journey,” a talk given by Dr. Steven Lloyd-Moffet, takes place on Sunday, May 18, at 3 p.m. He is a religious studies professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and focuses on exploring religion and culture.

Lloyd-Moffet lectures widely in the community and finds spirituality in many places including nature, the vineyard, and ascetic traditions within many different cultures. He received Cal Poly’s Liberal Arts teaching award and the President’s Community Service Award. He earned both his master’s degree and his Ph.D. in religious studies from the University of California in Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in theology from St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, NY.

The talks are given at the Unitarian Universal Community of Cambria, 786 Arlington Street. A $10 donation per person is requested. Beverages and baked goods will be served. To reserve seats, email admin@greenspacecambria.org or call the Greenspace office at (805) 927-2866
