This book is one of the maritime themed gifts for sale at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum.
The Morro Bay Maritime Museum is planning a special exhibit dedicated to commercial fishing and is calling on the community to help accumulate the show.
They want to develop an exhibit wall inside the museum, located in the Front Street parking lot on the Embarcadero opposite the Great American Fish Co. (look for the submarine), dedicated to the men and women of the sea.
“Every commercial fisherman has a unique photo of the trials and tribulations of being a commercial fisherman,” said MBMMA president Scott Mather. “Whether it’s a photo of their boat, catch, or a disaster that befell them, we would like to consider it in our exhibit.”
They are asking for high-resolution digital copies of photos — recent and from long ago — that local fisher families might have to help them build a tribute to the folks that helped build this town.
“Morro Bay’s roots are connected directly to commercial fishing,” Mather said, “and the fishermen who worked tirelessly in this industry. We want to honor their legacy.” Call (805) 225-5044 to discuss possible donations.
The Maritime Museum is also planning another fundraiser barbecue drive-thru in January. Tognazinni’s Dockside will have dinners of smoked chicken for $15 and ribs for $30, along with Kelsey See Canyon Vineyard’s Viognier wine for $20 a bottle. The Museum is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and has several great “maritime themed” gift items for Christmas. The plan is to have the gift merchandise outside the Museum’s front door for safe shopping.
