Brenda and Brian Hascall have joined the White Caps Community Band.

The Morro Bay White Caps Community Band appointed Brenda Hascall as their new conductor and gained another new member, her husband.

In October of 2021, Brenda Hascall, and Brian Hascall joined the White Caps Community Band. Brenda plays the alto saxophone and Brian plays the trumpet.

Brenda has been a public-school band and orchestra teacher on the central coast for 26 years, currently employed with the Lompoc Unified School District. She helped fill in as assistant director for the White Caps Community Band during the holiday season and when the position opened, the board unanimously voted her in as the new conductor. Her background in community music goes as far back as the 1990s when she was the conductor for the Cambria Instrumental Ensemble.  From 2004 to 2016, she and her husband Brian also played in the Alan Hancock College Community Band.

In 2019 Brenda started the Cuesta College South County Community Band with plans to reassemble this August after taking a break due to the pandemic.  Brenda’s educational background includes a B.A. in music performance from California State University Northridge, and a Master of Arts degree in band conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University.

Brenda is sought after as a guest conductor and will conduct two concerts for the Atascadero Community Band this July. In her spare time, she enjoys composing original music for the bands she is a member of. Recently, the White Caps premiered two of her original works, “The Moon Over Nipomo,” which included a vocal solo, and a march entitled, “Rocket Launch March.”

The next performance of the White Caps Community Band with Brenda on the podium is Saturday, June 25 at the south T pier (near the Great American Fish Company) in Morro Bay from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
