Joan Sullivan, artist, historian, author, mother and grandmother turned 99 this week.
Joan has written five books about the area including one about Baywood Park, about Los Osos, the missions of California, when she worked at Hearst Castle, and her favorite is about the local ranches.
When she arrived in Los Osos in the early 70s she would take a local painting group and go visit local ranches. Along with creating beautiful drawings and paintings of these places, Joan got the history of the ranch straight from the people who were born, lived and, in some cases, died on the property.
Joan was also involved with starting The Bay News in the late 80s. The joke was she was the only one who know how to type and spell.
