CA Legislative Central Coast Caucus Scholarship Applications

The California Legislative Central Coast Caucus Foundation (CLCCCF) announced the opening of this year’s Central Coast Impact Scholarship application process. “Reflecting on the success of the inaugural Central Coast Impact Scholarship, we are proud to continue supporting students, said Foundation Chair Dawn Addis (Assemblymember, D- Morro Bay). “Hearing from past recipients about how this scholarship has positively influenced their educational journeys and community involvement reaffirms our commitment to investing in our region’s future leaders. I am honored to assist these dedicated individuals as they strive to make meaningful contributions locally and beyond.”
As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable, non-profit organization, the CLCCCF is committed to fostering education on issues significant to Central Coast communities. Cancer Prevention Month

April is recognized as National Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month, a time to highlight the importance of preventive measures and early screenings in the fight against cancer. Despite significant progress in cancer prevention and early detection, challenges persist as cancer incidence continues to rise in certain populations.
“Cancer prevention and early detection are crucial to reducing the burden of cancer on individuals and families,” said Dr. Tom Spillane, a Medical Oncologist at SLO Oncology and Hematology Health Center which is part of Dignity Health’s Pacific Central Coast Health Centers. “By adopting healthy lifestyles, following recommended screenings, and embracing early detection, we can significantly improve survival rates and overall quality of life for patients.”
According to the Oncology Nursing Society, cancer incidence rates have been increasing in recent years, particularly among younger adults. In 2024, the United States is projected to surpass 2 million new cancer cases for the first time. This rise is notably driven by increasing diagnoses in six of the ten most common cancers: breast, prostate, endometrial, pancreatic, kidney, and melanoma.
However, according to the American Cancer Society, thanks to improvements in early detection, treatments and healthier lifestyle choices, the U.S. cancer death rate decreased by 34% between 1991 and 2022.
This month serves as a reminder for individuals to engage in preventative behaviors, such as maintaining a balanced diet, avoiding tobacco use, undergoing regular screenings like colonoscopies, mammograms, and checks for prostate, skin cancer and even other preventive measures like HPV vaccines.
SLO County Bar Supports Rule of Law

The San Luis Obispo County Bar Association announced support of the American Bar Association to defend the Rule of Law and reject efforts to undermine the courts and the legal profession.
The organization rejects the notion that the U.S. Government can punish lawyers and law firms who represent certain clients or punish judges who rule certain ways.
“We cannot accept Government actions that seek to twist the scales of justice in this manner, SLOBar said in a statement. “We reject efforts to undermine the courts and the profession. We will not stay silent in the face of efforts to remake the legal profession into something that rewards those who agree with the government and punishes those who do not.
“There are clear choices facing our profession. We can choose to remain silent and allow these acts to continue or we can stand for the rule of law and the values we hold dear. We call upon the entire profession, including lawyers in private practice from Main Street to Wall Street, as well as those in corporations and who serve in elected positions, to speak out against intimidation.”
