he Sheriff’s Department arrested an elderly Shandon man on suspicion of committing lewd acts with children attending an unlicensed daycare operation in his home.
According to a news release from Sheriff’s Spokesman, Tony Cipolla, deputies served a search warrant on Aug. 5 at a home in the 100 block of South Fourth St., in Shandon.
The search warrant was in connection to an ongoing investigating involving allegations of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, Cipolla said.
The warrant led to the arrest of Javier RiveraMojica, 67 of Shandon on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts on a child.
“During the investigation,” Cipolla said, “Detectives learned RiveraMojica allegedly gained access to numerous victims through an unlicensed daycare that he and his wife were operating from their residence in the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Shandon.”
Detectives continue to investigate the matter and are asking anyone with information related to the case or who have had contact with the suspect in a similar circumstance or know someone who has had contact with him to call the Sheriff’s Detective Division at 805-781-4500.
“Investigators are working to determine whether there are additional victims or witnesses who have not yet come forward,” Cipolla said.
The victims in the case have been referred to victim advocacy and support services, Cipolla said. “The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to their safety and well-being throughout the investigation.”
