Gretechen Wright, a beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, due to Alzheimer’s-related causes. She was 70 years old.
Gretechen’s life was defined by compassion, connection, and service. A longtime resident of the Central Coast, she was a member of both the Cayucos Community Church and the Cambria Vineyard Fellowship. Known for her remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, Gretechen had a rare gift for making others feel truly seen and valued. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds—whether offering a listening ear, or lending a helping hand, she made a difference in every interaction.
Gretechen was a true pillar of her community, always there to serve others and guide them toward the resources they needed. Her heart for others was matched by her unwavering empathy and her belief in the good in people.
She is survived by her loving husband, Vernon, daughter Janell (Tim), son Vernon, sister-in-law Val, and dear family friends Katy and Ed. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on in those who were lucky enough to know her.
A passionate animal advocate for all animals, Gretechen found great joy in her membership with the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero, where she visited the tiger exhibit every week. She held a special fondness for Menderu, the tiger, whose strength brought her happiness.
In honor of her life and the compassion she showed to all living beings, the family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support Menderu’s exhibit expansion at the Charles Paddock Zoo.
Gretechen will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the kindness she carried in everything she did.
