Registration closes April 12 for the Wildflower Bicycle Century taking place May 3 in Creston. The San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club invites folks to the Wildflower Century on May 3 in Creston. There are four challenging routes of 35, 50, 65 and 80 miles on quiet rural roads through vineyards and ranches in Paso Robles Wine Country. Four rest stops with yummy cuisine, SAG vehicles, smiling volunteers and a tasty post-ride meal are highlights. Captivating Photos provides free photos to riders. A Friday night spaghetti feed from 5-7:30 p.m. and camping nearby. The event is limited to 1000 riders. Registration closes April 12 or when 1000 riders are reached. Join the Morro Coast Audubon Society for the Third Annual Birds of SLO and Northern Santa Barbara Counties curated and presented by Judy Neuhauser Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalists Church of San Luis Obispo, 2201 Lawton Ave., SLO. 

Neuhauser will present the third annual program of Birds of San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties. This slide show, featuring photos from some of the best photographers in the area, will showcase the splendor of birds that live and migrate through the spectacularly varied habitats in our counties. The wide range of birds that live in or pass through these landscapes is truly amazing. Join us as we get a close-up look at these birds as they live their lives, in photos taken by some of the Central Coast’s finest nature photographers. The program is set to music by Aria DiSalvio and her musical collaborators, a cellist from Santa Cruz. The officers and members of the Bay-Osos Filipino Community Association, Inc (BOFCA) will hold their 2025 Fiesta and Coronation Ball at South Bay Community Center, 2180 Palisades Avenue, Los Osos, on Saturday April 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The theme is “Together Thru Songs and Dances, Our Past, our Future, the Tradition Continues,” which includes an evening of Filipino cuisine, dancing, raffle drawings and the most anticipated coronation ball of our 2025 Fiesta Queen Dionicia Mauel of Los Osos, first Princess Jocelyn Dekocker of Atascadero and 2nd Princess Raquel Bernabe of Los Angeles, CA. Outgoing 2024 Fiesta Queen is Evelyn Juan Gaoiran from Livermore, CA.

The Royal Court raises funds toward the association’s scholarship program to award graduating high school seniors in the central coast. Also, BOFCA members and officers who work tirelessly though monthly chicken BBQs from April to October also contribute to this scholarship fund. Scholarship awards will be presented at a LUAU dinner in July.

The publisher of Estero Bay News, Dean Sullivan, will enlighten the audience as the guest speaker. He was recently voted as 2024 Los Osos Citizen of the Year. A distinguish family will also be recognized as Family of the Year. BOFCA abd Social Club of Santa Maria dancers will provide the evening’s entertainment.

This scholarship fundraising event’s dinner includes tri tip, BBQ chicken, rice, pansit, lumpia green salad, and fruits for $30 per person.

The SLO Beaver Brigade invites eager beavers of all ages to the Third Annual San Luis Obispo County. Beaver Festival on Saturday, April 12 in Mission Plaza from 10 am to 3 pm. There will be a strong focus on the nexus between prescribed burn, beaver restoration and ranching at this year’s festival. The day includes free admission, food, vendors, live music, children’s activities, a beaver trivia contest, speakers, and a plethora of information about the benefits that beavers provide to us in our state and county. This event open to folks of all ages.

The American Association of University Women, Morro Bay Branch welcomes the AAUW San Luis Obispo Branch to their April meeting. The meeting is Saturday, April 12, beginning at 10 a.m. at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, 545 Shasta, Morro Bay. In honor of their Garden Tour on April 27, they will discuss orchids. Jeff Parham and Ed Lysek, representing the Five Cities Orchid Society, will discuss the rewards and how-to of cultivating your own orchid collection. They will show the beauty and variety of orchids available, for both indoor and outdoor use. Tickets will be available for the 37th Annual Garden Tour at this meeting, as well as posters and last minute information. This Garden Tour facilitates donations to various local causes throughout the year.

Cal Poly’s Student Opera Theatre presents “‘Gianni Schicchi’ and Opera Scenes” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Spanos Theatre. Puccini’s one-act comedy will be performed with orchestra and feature professional opera singers Gabriel Manro and Dominic Salvati alongside Cal Poly students. Scenes from other operas will also be on the program, accompanied by Paul Woodring on piano. More than 50 students are participating in the production. Tickets range from $22 to $18 and are available at PacSLO.org.

Join us at the library as we craft beautiful handmade things from recycled materials. We’ll have a button maker, DIY notebook binder, collage supplies and more! School age, tween, teen.

Calling all teens! Looking for volunteer or community service hours? Help Librarian Emily run the Teen Advisory Board. Participation can be listed on job, scholarship and college applications. There will be snacks. Ages 13-18.

Build creations with Keva Blocks, GeoMags, stacked cups and more! Will yours be the tallest, widest, most colorful, or something else entirely? Build it, tear it down, build it again. For ages 5+.

The Cal Poly Music Department presents an open house recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Davidson Music Center. The recital is one of many scheduled events for Cal Poly’s 32nd annual Open House. The student instrumentalists and vocalists are from a variety of majors, and all are involved in at least one of the department’s large, premier ensembles. Admission is free.

Hotel San Luis Obispo and Executive Chef Ryan Fancher invite the public to “Rosé all day” at the 4th Annual Rosé the SLO Way (RTSW) event at the Hotel San Luis Obispo Garden Courtyard, 877 Palm St. in San Luis Obispo, on April 13 from 1 – 4 p.m.

The highly anticipated “ultimate pink party” is a celebration of the release of the latest vintage of Central Coast Rosé wines and a fundraiser for Woods Humane Society and Cal Poly’s Uncork Potential Hospitality and Enology Scholarships.

Welcoming more than 300 guests, RTSW offers Rosé tasting from more than 30 premier wineries, paired with delectable creations from Executive Chef Ryan Fancher and his team at Ox + Anchor and Piadina. Guests of the event can also enjoy signature bites from acclaimed guest chefs Dustin Valette of Sonoma Wine Country; San Luis Obispo’s own Brian Collins; as well as from all-stars Morro Bay Oyster Co., Tsar Nicoulai Caviar, and Sichuan Kitchen SLO. Sweet treats from local favorites Breda and Harmony Valley Creamery will round out the palate for this gourmet event.

The event also features live DJs spinning danceable daytime tunes, Emcee Extraordinaire Adam Monteil, a wine-pull, a drawing for exciting prizes, a best-dressed contest, and a mini fashion marketplace that includes retailers Avanti, Summerland, Infinity Metals SLO, Tails Pet Boutique, and Blinged Out Locks. Woods Humane Society will also host the popular Woods Cuddle Corner, brimming with adorable, adoptable puppies and kittens.

Art Center Morro Bay is offering a kite workshop for children on Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. – noon. Just in time for the Morro Bay Kite Festival, they will create kites using Tyvek-strength material, explore kite designs, tell kite stories, and then decorate kites. The teachers Jenna Freck and Shannon Larson.

This is for kids ages 6-12. Materials are provided and the cost is $30 per child. There is a 12-student maximum. Email questions to artcenterkids.morrobay@gmail.com.
