Michael Allan Owens, 55, of Woodland, CA died January 19, 2025, at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.
Mike was born January 15, 1970, in Anaheim, CA to Gary and Marlene Owens joining siblings Susan and David. The family moved to Morro Bay that same year. Mike attended Morro Elementary School, Los Osos Junior High School, and Morro Bay High School. He began his advanced education at Cuesta College then transferred to Humboldt State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies with a minor in Geography. He then attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he earned his teaching credential. He married Lori Raine in Morro Bay on January 4, 1992. Together they had a son, Kai, and daughter, Sage.
Mike began his teaching career at Harden Middle School and Gonzales High School in Salinas, CA. He then taught social studies and drivers’ education at Woodland High School for nearly 30 years. While at Woodland High School, he was a part of the Ag Academy and was fundamental in starting and establishing the Veterans Project, which has brought veterans and students together in conversation for the past 16 years. Mike loved every minute of interacting with the students in his community and was always proud to be a part of the Wolf Pack.
Mike enjoyed many hobbies and outdoor pursuits including hunting, fishing, scuba diving, abalone diving, kayaking, camping, skiing, fly tying, reading, and spending time at the beach. He never missed an opportunity to support his kids in their endeavors. He traveled all over the U.S. with his family and especially enjoyed getting to go to Washington DC a few years ago and traveling to Europe with his son.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Gary Owens. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years Lori, son Kai, daughter Sage and faithful dog Copper. He is also survived by his mother Marlene, sister Susan (David) Lauman, brother David (Dawn) Owens and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Life Pointe Church, 1616 West Street, Woodland, California.
