Cal Poly Bach Week Events Scheduled for Jan. 22-24. On Jan. 22 there will be an instrumental master class and continuo workshop, a vocal master class, and a lecture titled “Opera’s Virtuous Cousin: The Rise of the Oratorio.” On Jan. 23 the period instrumental ensemble Tesserae Baroque will present “Meera Kahe.” On Jan. 24 there will be two performances of the “Oratorio” finale concerts. For more information, go to bachweek.calpoly.edu/.
Bach Week is devoted to the performance and exploration of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries. Events range from chamber music performed on period instruments to the collaborative performance of large vocal and instrumental works by students and professionals. Free demonstrations and lectures provide additional context for these performances.
In 2011, Thomas Davies and David Arrivée established Bach in the Mission as an annual, collaborative concert that would give Cal Poly student musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform with faculty and local professionals the vocal and instrumental music of Bach. The two had long wanted to apply their shared interest and experience to such an educational project, and since its inception, the final, collaborative concert has grown each year.
Since 2015, new events have been added and Bach Week — no longer a single concert — has grown to include multiple performances, a master class and lectures, all serving to explore Bach’s music and its context. With the retirement of Davies from Cal Poly in 2017, Scott Glysson joined the faculty as director of choral activities and took on the role of Bach Week’s co-director. Tickets are sold for each event individually at pacslo.org.

passion-filled roars of the anthemic chorus in the crowd favorite, “Killing in the Name.” This is a 21 and over show. Tickets are $14.70 and are available at my805tix.com.

Check out Analog Dog at the Siren on Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. for Genre-bending modern music celebrating psychedelic revolution of the 1960s in San Francisco.
Analog Dog makes genre fluid music in San Francisco. Hailing from all corners of the country, the band came together in and around the hallowed musical breeding grounds of Golden Gate Park. With each member drawing on diverse inspirations and musical backgrounds, from self-taught to classically trained, they unite over a common love for genre-bending composition and improvisation. Honoring the vibrations of the psychedelic revolution of the 1960s, digging into the disco groves from the dance revolution of the 1970s, and simultaneously embracing modern indie pop soundscapes, Analog Dog is its own thing. Tickets are $24.30. For more information, go to https://thesirenmorrobay.com/.
