The MBHS 1976 CIF Southern Section 1A Championship basketball team will be honored during halftime durning the MBHS varsity boys’ basketball team’s February 3 home game. Tip-off is 6:30pm. For old times’ sake the game will be played in the “old” or “small” gym as it is called these days.
The 1976 team, coached by Sal Cardinale, is the only boys’ basketball team in MBHS history to win the CIF Southern Section Championship. Players on the team included: Robin Brown, Stanley Craig, Shawn Kuhn, Jerry Leetham, Dave McCracken, Mitch Panek, John Poe, Mark Pytko, Jeff Riley, Jack Rodda, Jack Wheeler, Jim Hayes, Danny Rodgers and Chris Wheeler.
There will be a reception for the players and family members to kick off the evening. Cardinale will speak about the championship season and introduce the team members. Many former players, coaches and cheerleaders will be in attendance. The public is invited to join the tribute.
