Three dragon boats raced on the waters of Morro Bay on May 17 to celebrate the 10th year of the Central Coast Dragon Boat Association (CCDBA). The Cal Poly Lion Dance Team danced among the paddlers and public at Tidelands Park, to celebrate and bring good luck.

CCDBA celebrated the successes of two local teams: the Central Coast SurviveOars (cancer survivors and supporters), and the Central Coast Adventurers (Cal Poly University and Cuesta College students, staff and alumni).

The SurviveOars have a team of all cancer survivors who qualified to compete at the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF)World Club Crew Championships in Ravenna, Italy in September. The Adventurers are a new team and competed for the first time at the Los Angeles County Dragon Boat Festival in Castaic Lake on June 1.

For more information about the sport of dragon boating, or to sign up to try it for free, visit CCDBA.org. CCDBA, a nonprofit organization, welcomes new paddlers and new teams.
