With the help of generous donors and volunteers, the Los Osos Valley Garden Club redesigned and planted a new garden in front of the South Bay Community Center. In July, club members decided on vegetation that would make an architectural statement and compliment the building, while maintaining a pollinator friendly theme. The plan, designed by garden club member Alexandra Van Nuys, has a uniform repetition of form and color to promote a harmonious atmosphere.

Several planting sessions were scheduled in August 2023 to complete the project. Garden club volunteers, ranging in age from 10 to 80-years-old, donated more than 80 hours to complete the project.

Most of the more than 300 plants were purchased with funds raised by the garden club last year. The rest were donated by LOVCG members Alexandra Van Nuys and John Mottmann . Landscape boulders were donated by Central Coast Landscape Products of SLO, and mulch was donated by garden club member and SBCC board member Gary Katayama.

The Los Osos Valley Garden Club’s goal is to contribute to the community through civic beautification and gardening education and welcomes gardeners of all levels of experience. Check out their website https://www.lovgardenclub.org to learn more about the club.
