I believe it was in 2021 that we finally finalized the General Plan for Morro Bay, after years of meetings with the Coastal Commission, City Council and the Public. This was a huge financial undertaking as well and you and I paid for that. One result of that extensive process was a General Plan which designed the proposed Battery Storage location as Visitor Serving/ Commercial. After all of that, do we really want it to be changed to Industrial without a vote of the people? The opposition (vote ‘no’ people) are telling us that we, the public, are not smart enough or informed enough to make that decision and that we should just trust five people to do that. How insulting! If you do not want that area (across from the high school and near the waterfront) to become the world’s largest lithium ion battery storage facility, or some other industrial project, please vote “yes” on A-24 so that you and I can have a say in the matter. I trust the citizens to be smart enough to decide this issue.
Don’t be fooled by the ‘no’ people about how much money the City will make. In fact, the county will make 12% a year on property tax and the City of Morro Bay will make 1% of that. What price would you pay for your safety? Don’t be fooled by the ‘no’ people telling you that AB205 can override the Coastal Commission either or that this company will take the stacks down. If they don’t, they only have to pay 3 million! A far cry from what it will actually cost to remove them. So, chances are, they will pay the 3 million.
I could go on and on refuting their claims but will leave it at that for now. Vote “yes” on A-24!
