The Spring 2025 Morro Bay high School athletic season is in full swing, and the Booster’s Club has given several Athlete of the Month honors for March 2025.

Student athletes selected for honors were: Gerrick Amor, Wendy Wilson, Ben Erkenbrecher, and Jonas Smith.

Boys’ Volleyball Team Coach Shelby Frey honored Amor for taking his game to the next level.

“Gerrick Amor is our Boys’ Volleyball Student Athlete of the Month, and for good reason!” Coach Frey said. “He consistently goes above and beyond, showing up to everything, even when not asked.”

Amor stepped up at a recent match. “A kind and selfless teammate,” Coach Frey said, “he helps our program in numerous ways. This past Tuesday, Gerrick made his debut in a thrilling match against Coastal Christian, where his leadership and consistent serving helped lead his team to victory. His dedication and positive attitude make him a valuable asset to both the team and the program!”

Track and Field

Track & Field Team Coach Jennifer Frere’s girls’ team choice has made a big splash in a short time.

“Wendy Wilson is a sophomore middle-distance track and cross country runner at Morro Bay,” Coach Frere said. “She recently set a new meet record and stadium record for the 800 meters at the Central Coast Spring Classic at San Luis Obispo High School with a time of 2-minutes 18.58-seconds.”

Wilson is setting an example for all MBHS athletes. “Wendy is a role model for all athletes,” the Coach said. “She is always working to get stronger and faster and is a joy to coach. We are looking forward to seeing Wendy achieve her goals this season.”

Baseball

Baseball Coach Jarred Zill honored Erkenbrecher, who is new to MBHS’ program. “Ben is new to MBHS baseball this year,” Coach Zill said, “and has quickly become a big part of the team. Ben has displayed leadership qualities on and off the field that represent MBHS in a positive way.”

He’s the sort of player that every baseball team needs. “Ben shows up to practice everyday with a smile,” Coach Zill said, “works hard, is coachable, and encourages his teammates to be their best selves.”

Boys Golf

Coach Sean Allstot honored Smith, who’s been shooting scratch golf at home and on away courses. “He shot an even par, 72, in our opening league tournament,” Coach Allstot said. “This score led the tournament and anchored MBHS to the team victory! Jonas also shot a team-record score of 66 at Morro Bay Golf Course the other day!”
