Morro Bay High’s Sara Sterner brought home a medal from the State Wrestling Championships, and capped a brilliant season, landing amongst the elite grapplers in California.

Sterner, a junior this year, competed against the Top-32 girls in the 123-pound weight class at the State Meet in Bakersfield, posting a 5-2 record and taking home the seventh place medal. The Top-8 wrestlers in each weight class earn medals.

She finished her season with a 35-4 overall record with 28 pins. She was champion at four regular-season tournaments; was named Outstanding Lower Weight Wrestler at two of those tournaments; was First Team All League; the League’s Outstanding Lower Weight Wrestler; finished second at CIF Regionals; second at CIF Masters; and seventh at the CIF State Championships

Sterner’s 2020 season goes down as the best ever by a girl wrestler in Morro Bay High School history, high expectations going into her senior season in 2021. She is just the second MBHS girl wrestler to make the State Championships Meet.
