Human Bean Donates to Food Drive

Giving back is part of the company culture at the Human Bean where they like to say, “they are brewing up more than just coffee — they’re brewing up hope.”

Pat and Vikki Mitchell, owners of the three coffee shops located in Morro Bay, Atascadero and Templeton recently raised about $800 for the SLO Foodbank as part of their annual Food Drive Give Back to support the food insecure in the county.

The Mitchell’s also own shops in Clovis and Tulare County.

“We do a number of fundraisers throughout the year to benefit our communities,” Vikki told Estero Bay News. “We did our first annual St. Jude Children’s Hospital giveback in June and raised $858 from the three Central Coast stores.  Interestingly, as we promoted that giveback in Tulare County, we found out one of our Tulare County customers has a son who is a current St. Jude’s patient and will benefit from the fundraiser.  They both came out on the giveback day and handed out drinks to our customers.”

The company also participates in Coffee for a Cure, which is coming up on October 18.  Last year they donated $5,872 to the French Hospital Medical Center Foundation to support the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund.  French Hospital, again, will be the recipients for the Central Coast locations donation.

“The more awareness around our giveback days and the more customer support we get on the day of our givebacks, the more we are able to contribute,” Vikki said. “Our customers don’t donate to the fundraisers — Pat and I personally contribute a percentage of the day’s sales for the fundraisers. For Coffee for a Cure, we donate 100% of that day’s sales from each of our locations to the local organizations we support.”

The Morro Bay location of The Human Bean is located at 839 Morro Bay Blvd.

Grand Opening and Appreciation Week at Cayucos Yoga

Cayucos Yoga has an active month planned with events that community members are encouraged to take part in as part of their grand opening, ribbon cutting and member appreciation week.

Cayucos Yoga, located at 625 S. Ocean Ave. (entrance on 6th Street), opened their doors November 1, 2023, as Cayucos’ first dedicated yoga studio.

“It has been a vision of mine to have a stand-alone, dedicated yoga studio in Cayucos since 2018,” owner Judi Sheesley told Estero Bay News. “It manifested towards the exact location we are in presently, the former Reis Family Mortuary. The service room is a place where my own children took some dance lessons many years ago.”

Clients of the studio appreciate all that is offered.

“As if Cayucos couldn’t be blissed out enough, now there is a fantastic yoga studio that provides for even more inner peace in this quiet beachside town,” said studio member Chelsea Cooke in a letter to EBN. “The instructors are patient and knowledgeable. The studio is serene. The location is perfect. I have spent the last six months regaining my strength and flexibility at this dream of a studio and have nothing but good things to say about it. If you’re a seasoned yogi or thinking about trying it out, this studio is ideal.”

A ribbon cutting with the Cayucos Chamber of Commerce takes place Wednesday September 18, at 4 p.m. The event will feature fresh baked treats and wine provided by Jacob Toft Wines with raffle and door prizes from 4 to 5 p.m.

Cayucos Yoga Member Appreciation Week runs Monday September 16 through Sunday September 22, with raffle and door prizes all week long.

There is also an open house Saturday and Sunday September 21 – 22 before and after yoga sessions. This is also the last chance to partake of the “Opening Special”- twelve yoga sessions per month, auto-renews monthly, for six months at $99.

“Cayucos Yoga is for the community designed to foster a community within a community,” Sheesley said. “Our members are ‘Stoked Cayogis’ with a yard sign to boot! So much better than political signs opposing each other. In short, Cayucos needed this space for residents and visitors alike. Cayucos has no issue with people returning to visit, and we gave them one more reason to come back.

“I have been in this county for over 25 years, I do call this magical place home! So much gratitude to the Central Coast and all of its offerings.”
