Wine 4 Paws is this weekend. This wine country fundraising for homeless pets at Woods Humane Society features more than 75 local participating wineries, olive oil companies, restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, hotels and tour companies, and other participating businesses. All Wine 4 Paws participants will donate 10% of proceeds from the weekend to Woods Humane Society, and many will offer special events beginning April 24 and extending through Wine 4 Paws weekend on April 25 and 26.

“Each year, our wine country businesses show up to support Wine 4 Paws in such fun and creative ways,” says Wine 4 Paws organizer Sarah Tomasetti. “From wine tasting, dining, live music, auctions, and special classes for humans to bacon tasting, special treats, pet portraits & fashion shows, and pup cups for dogs, local wine enthusiasts and pet-lovers have so many incredible ways to support the animals at Woods Humane Society this year! It’s a win-win-win for you, your pets, and the pets at Woods.”

The Wine 4 Paws fundraiser comes at a crucial time for Woods Humane Society, which is already responding to an early baby season on the Central Coast with a record-breaking 80 puppies adopted in March and more than 100 kittens and puppies already in foster care.

This year’s Wine 4 Paws tasting trails include participating locations off the 46 West & 46 East; in and around Tin City; Downtown Paso Robles; the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail; Creston; Vineyard Road & Peachy Canyon Drive; Nacimiento Lake Drive; San Luis Obispo’s Edna Valley; as well as Cambria, Morro Bay, Atascadero, and Santa Margarita. Wine tasting reservations are recommended at many locations. Learn more at bit.ly/4txlUMR.

Braver Angels, a national non-profit, non-partisan organization, wants to “End Toxic Polarization.” Their CEO, Maury Giles, visited the local alliance a couple months ago and spoke to a packed house, filled with community members and two SLO County Board of Supervisors. Giles engaged the audience by introducing himself as a conservative from Utah and inviting people to share the stereotypes they had already assigned to him. His point became clear: we all judge and carry bias, often without evidence. He also pointed out how outrage-infused media profits from division, pulling us into cycles of anger and perhaps despair. Then, he reminded us that we still have agency; we can choose to step out of the outrage cycle.

Braver Angels offers you a braver way forward. Step out of outrage and choose connection that can rebuild trust. Let’s learn to have conversation across political differences.

On April 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a free workshop will be held at the United Church of Christ, Chandler Community Hall on Los Osos Valley Road. Attendees will learn and practice LAPPC skills— L – Listen, A-Acknowledge, P-Pivot (Permission), P-Perspective and C- Connect — practical tools for listening, sharing perspectives, and having respectful conversations across disagreement. We call it Courageous Conversation.

Register at BraverAngels.org or just show up and register at the door. Come early at 9:15 a.m., bring a neighbor, and invest your Saturday morning in building stronger, more courageous conversations in our community.

The San Luis Obispo Symphony concludes its 2025–2026 season on Saturday, May 2, with Mystique & Wonder, a program of dazzling storytelling and

orchestral color featuring the return of internationally celebrated pianist Ilya Yakushev.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo. Symphonic Foray, the Symphony’s pre-concert talk, begins one hour earlier at 2 p.m. The program pairs three works built on spectacle and imagination: Berlioz’s “Roman Carnival Overture,” Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody” on a Theme of Paganini,” with Yakushev at the piano, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the sweeping orchestral suite drawn from the tales of “One Thousand and One Nights.”

Immediately following the performance, the Symphony will host its 2nd Annual Symphony in Bloom fundraiser on the plaza at the Performing Arts Center. The evening includes dinner and auctions in support of the Symphony’s artistic and education programs.

Audience members will enjoy a rich selection of music ranging from patriotic and sacred works to beloved folk songs, inspirational spirituals, and even a touch of Disney magic.

Among the featured selections are “The Star-Spangled Banner,” arranged by Ron Perry, along with the powerful spiritual “Elijah Rock,” the moving choral anthem “Prayer of the Children,” and “Ad Astra,” whose title means “to the stars.” The program also includes the traditional farewell song “The Parting Glass,” known for its themes of gratitude and reflection.

On a lighter note, audiences will enjoy “Wild Mountain Thyme,” a romantic ballad filled with imagery of summer and blooming hillsides. We will also take a fun musical journey across the United States with “The Capital Song”—it’s a real hoot! You’ll hear the story of one of Robin Hood’s merry men in “When Allen A-Dale Went A-Hunting,” along with a delightful medley from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and more.

Tickets are $20 for adults, and students are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are available through the Cambria Chamber of Commerce, from a Chorale member, online at cambriachorale.org, and at My805Tix.com.
