SLO Skiers, a local, non-profit sports and social club for adults will hold its next monthly meeting at Cuesta Park in San Luis Obispo at 5:30 p.m. on September 1. They meet just past the children’s playground equipment on the lawn and have a tall blue and white pennant. Meetings are free and yearly membership is only $50.

Beginner’s Guide to Creation Care and the Climate Crisis is a virtual facilitated five-session series that takes place from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays from September 9-October 7.

St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church in Los Oso, invites persons of all faiths to join in the series. Explore what’s driving climate change, how to think anew about God’s call to be good stewards, and concrete steps to take at home, church, and in community to make a difference. Sessions include Bible reflections, short videos, and discussion. Come and share your questions, insights and ideas.

The Morro Bay Yacht Club Sail, Pedal, Paddle takes place Aug. 28.Grab you weekend beach gear; boats, bikes, paddle/surf boards and kayaks with your family and friends for a fun relay race at the Morro Bay Yacht Club. Skipper’s meeting is at 9:30 a.m., S.P.P. relay starts at 10 a.m., and a BBQ lunch and awards are at 12:30 p.m.

Starting at the water front dock of MBYC, there will be a short sail course rounding a few channel markers and finishing back at the dock. From there, the cycling leg of the relay begins. The course takes the cyclist to the MB Rock and then over at Coleman Park. Then the last leg of the relay launches on any paddle vessel associated with their team. The paddle finishes back at the MBYC dock. All checkpoints will have a token of completion to present at the finish line.

Each team is 2-4 participants. Team price is $35 for members (only one needed) and $40 for non-members. This includes a BBQ lunch for each team member. BBQ lunch sold separately for $10. Tee-shirts are also available for pre-purchase $20.

The Morro Bay Art Association presents Art in the Park at Morro Bay Park on corner of Morro Bay Blvd and Harbor Drive. Times are: Sept. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This 65th annual show offers artists and crafts people a high quality outdoor setting to display and sell their wares to an appreciative audience. There are 108 booths representing 125 independent artists and craft workers and a wide variety of food and drink available at the festival. Entry is free.

SLO County Public Library presents author and music journalist Mark Brickley’s The Beatles Road to Stardom on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom. This dynamic multimedia presentation focuses on the band’s early years and their rise as recording artists. It features many rare photos, in-concert video clips, and will close with a Q&A session. The event is free to the public. Registration is required and can be done on the Event Calendar at www.slolibrary.org.

Mark Brickley is the author of the acclaimed 2017 book “Postcards from Liverpool.” An expanded edition was released in 2019. Mark has contributed to Coastal View News, Noozhawk.com, Deep Magazine, the British Beatles Fan Club Magazine, and has appeared at various venues, such as Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans and the NY Abbey Road Conference.

Join a beginner clay workshop at Bang the Drum Brewery, 1150 Laurel Lane in San Luis Obispo, on Aug. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and make a ceramic speckled beer stein mug. Participant will learn the basics of working with clay using the slab construction method and decorating by sculpting and texturing clay. Adriana Lemus and Chad Franco from Night Owl Pottery will guide you through this intro to clay workshop. The $65 fee includes speckled clay, all materials and tools to use during the workshop, glaze and firing, instruction by experienced ceramic artists, and your first beer or beverage (for 21+)! Once your stein mug is created, you will leave it with the instructors where they will take it back to their studio to be fired, glazed (painted), and fired a second time. This process takes about 4-5 weeks. When complete, the mugs will be brought back to Bang the Drum to be picked up. Tickets are at eventbrite.com

The Stone Soup Music Festival is back in Grover Beach at 993 Ramona Ave. on August 28 and 29. With two stages, there will always be music from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday. True to the Stone Soup theme, there is a variety of music representing many genres and cultures. Entry is free and event includes 11 bands, food, crafts, a kids zone and more. The Sweet in the headliner band playing the main stage on Saturday at 8 p.m. The band is known for 70’s hits “Love is Like Oxygen” and “Ballroom Blitz.”

Join the fun on Sunday at 11 a.m. for the dog parade. Dog owners are encouraged to dress their canine companions for a festive parade. Awards will be presented for Best in Mardi Paws, Most Original, Most Colorful, and Best Dog/Owner Look-Alike. Registration is free Sunday morning starting at 10:30 a.m. All dogs must be on a leash. Check out “Every Brilliant Thing” at the San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre August 27 – September 12. You’re seven years old. Mom’s in the hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So you start to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world.

Everything worth living for: 1. Ice cream. 2. Kung Fu movies. 3. Staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch TV. 4. The color yellow. You leave it on her pillow. You know she read it because she’s corrected your spelling. Soon, the list will take on a life of its own.

Shows start at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Saturday performances are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets range from $20-36 and can be purchased at slorep.org.

Forever Stoked Summer Art Show take place Aug. 28 from Noon to 8 p.m. at1164 Quintana Rd. in Morro Bay. Join the artists of Forever Stoked and friends as they unveil their latest paintings featuring new work from Charlie Clingman, Chris Pedersen, Peter Pierce and more. They will also have tunes from Jon Milsap and the Cimo BrothersThis is a free event and everyone is welcome.

The GleanSLO program flourishes when they have the help of neighborhood harvest leaders, specially trained volunteers who can lead their own harvests in neighborhoods throughout the county. A training session takes place Sept. 8 starting at 9 a.m. Sign up and location is at gleanslo.org/harvestlist.php. Harvest leaders allow GleanSLO to schedule many more harvests than with just staff members.

If you already glean with them, and have a few hours to spare each month, this might be the perfect opportunity for you! Trainings are two hours or less, and include an in-the-field demonstration.
