Morro Bay High’s Winter Sports Season is in the books, and the Central Coast Athletic Association has announced its All League honorees.
Girls Basketball
Morro Bay High’s Girls Basketball Team took a co-Championship in the Sunset League along with Righetti High with both teams finishing the year 8-2 in league.
The Pirates went 21-7 overall and three rounds deep into the CIF Central Section playoffs before falling to Shafter and ending the season.
Senior guard, Violet Pace, was named the League’s Most Valuable Player and coach Alex Engel shared Coach of the Year Honors with Righetti’s Desiree Hitch.
The Defensive Player of the Year was shared by Lompoc’s Tara Terrones and Atascadero’s Jacey George.
The Pirates had two on the First Team All League — senior guard Zoe Fitzwater and junior forward Taylen Robson.
Sophomore guard, Ella Lobos was named Second Team All League along with junior guard Emily Cordes. Another sophomore, Aubri Gomes-Garcia was named Honorable Mention All League for Morro Bay.
According to Max Prep Sports’ stats, Pace, who was also named the Tribune’s SLO County Player of the Year, scored 16.2 points a game, had 2.8 assists a game, and 6.8 rebounds a game. She added 2.9 steals a game as well.
The senior led the Sunset League with 59, 3-point baskets and was 11th in the Central Section for treys and 119th in the State.
The girls basketball team earned the school’s lone league championship this winter. Also of note, Coach Engel recorded and surpassed the 100th win of his career at MBHS.
Boys Basketball
The Pirates Boys Basketball Team didn’t fare as well as their female counterparts, as the team finished 2-8 in the Ocean League and 5-22 overall. Santa Maria won the Ocean League title with teammates Julius Medina and Jordan Medina (Santa Maria) sharing the MVP.
Defensive MVP went to Driscoll Johnson of Orcutt Academy.
No Pirates were named First Team All League but senior Stone Hawk was named Second Team All League.
Another senior, Sands Dougherty made Honorable Mention.
Boys Soccer
Templeton was the Champions of the Sunset League’s Boys Soccer with the Eagles’ Luke Kahler being named MVP. Templeton’s Coach, Brad Rubin, was Coach of the Year. Goalie of the Year went to Atascadero’s Jordan Amaro.
Morro Bay’s Abel Mendoza was named First Team All League and Noah Esparza was Second Team.
The Pirates’ Efrain Hernandez was Honorable Mention.
Girls Soccer
The Pirates had one player make the First Team All League (Ocean League) this year, as Santa Ynez ran off with the championship. The other Pirates also swept the MVP and Defensive MVP honors as Kailani Ladera was Most Valuable and Hannah Ricci was Defensive MVP. Their Coach, Rick Cantrell, was Coach of the Year and Templeton’s McKenna White was Goalie of the Year.
Morro Bay’s Chava Brody was First Team All League and Olivia Moreno was Second Team. Daisy Pimienta was Honorable Mention for Morro Bay.
