The Morro Bay High Booster’s Club has named its Athletes of the Month for April, picking out a girls beach volleyball player, a boys golfer, a pair of baseball players and for the first time ever a stunt team player.
Girls Beach Volleyball
Beach Volleyball Coach, Duane Cross singled out freshman player Stella Beard for honors.
“As a freshman it’s her first year playing beach volleyball,” the coach said, “but you wouldn’t know that watching her play. She brings her ‘A’ game everyday at practices and games alike.”
Beard has made an impact with the whole team. “Stella is loved by all her teammates. She brings the positive vibes to every match.
“Stella is an inspiration to the team and is one of our biggest most vocal team supporters and cheerleader on and off the court.
“She lights up the team with her contagious energy.”
Boys Golf
Boys Golf Coach Niclas DeAngelis named Andrew Cellar as his Athlete of the Month.
“Andrew spent most of his time last year on the golf team,” the coach said, “but did not compete often in varsity matches last year. This year he has not only come from shooting on the 90s when we first started getting together in December, but has emerged as an emerging golf athlete.”
Cellar has twice led the team scoring. “In our first half of the season,” Coach DeAngelis said, “Andrew has had a team best performance twice taking the top overall round best score (one that was a sub 80 score). In addition, Andrew puts in a phenomenal amount of effort and practice as he is always looking to improve and develop his overall outlook of the game.”
Baseball
Varsity Baseball Coach, Jarred Zill, named Quentin Crotts and Eli Brown for Athlete of the Month.
“Quentin,” Coach Zill said, “is currently leading the Central Coast in total offensive production. ‘Q’ also brings a positive attitude with him to the field every day and makes his teammates better because of that.”
Ace pitcher Brown is tossing BBs but this year has developed a more rounded game as well. “Eli recently threw a complete game, shutout against Mission Prep,” the coach said. “Eli also has been asked to step up and contribute more than just being a pitcher. Eli went from being a premium pitcher to a guy who is a premium pitcher, hitter, and defender.”
He praised the way both boys play the game. “Eli’s competitiveness is contagious, and similar to Q, he makes his teammates better because of that.”
Stunt Cheer
Stunt Cheer Coach, Cheyenne Rosenlieb, named Abby Henn for Athlete of the Month honors, the first time someone from that relatively new sport has been so honored.
“Abby is constantly showing up, putting in hard work and improving every day!” the coach said.
Estero Bay News congratulates all the Athletes of the Month.
